Teaching Practicum

Confidence in teaching doesn’t come from theory alone — it comes from experience, reflection, and guided professional feedback.

The Teaching Practicum microcredential is a structured 40-hour, supervised teaching experience designed to support your development from observer to independent TESOL instructor. It provides documented, assessed classroom practice in both face-to-face and online environments.

For many teachers, this practicum is the critical step between holding a TESOL certificate and meeting employment requirements.

Overview

The Teaching Practicum is a comprehensive, practice-based microcredential focused on professional growth and demonstrated classroom competence.

Across 40 structured hours, you will progress through:

  • Guided lesson observations
  • Supervised co-teaching
  • Independent lead teaching
  • Online teaching preparation and delivery
  • Structured reflection and formal debrief sessions

Rather than assigning letter grades, this practicum uses qualitative, standards-based feedback guided by five core assessment pillars:

  • Methodological Application – Applying TESOL theory and communicative methodology
  • Professionalism & Etiquette – Maintaining appropriate classroom conduct
  • Engagement & Presence – Fostering meaningful student interaction
  • Instructional Design – Effective planning and execution of lessons
  • Outcome Achievement – Ensuring lesson objectives are met
