Assessment Validation: a regular review process that determines whether learning outcomes are being assessed
Competencies: what learners can do
Criteria: list of features that a test instrument can be checked against for validity, reliability, flexibility, fairness and currency
Currency: whether the test instrument is aligned to current contexts
Diagnostic Tools: test instruments
Fairness: ensuring there is no bias in a test instrument, i.e., culture, gender, etc. that benefits one candidate over the other
Flexibility: whether a test instrument can be adapted to individual learner needs
Formative Assessment: assessment that indicates a learner’s strengths and weaknesses
Gatekeeper: a measure to determine if a learner is competent enough to engage in a higher level course
Learner Centred: when learner needs are taken into account
Learning Outcomes: what you want your learners to acquire
Reliability: whether a test instrument is stable and consistent
Summative Assessment: assessment that measures a learner’s readiness to move to the next level
Transparency: when it is clear to assessors and learners what is expected
Validity: whether a test instrument measures what it claims to
