Good intentions aren’t enough when it comes to assessment design. Even with AI helping to generate tasks, every question still needs a careful check before it’s ready for learners. That’s where the Outcome-Alignment Checklist comes in.
This lesson introduces a simple, five-part checklist you can apply to any AI-generated item before using it:
- Content alignment — does the item directly link to the intended learning outcome?
- Cognitive demand — is the level of thinking appropriate for your learners?
- Language and clarity — is the wording clear, fair, and free from errors?
- Cultural/contextual relevance — does the example make sense for your students and avoid bias?
- Feasibility — is the task practical to deliver and assess in your context?
Think of this as your “pre-flight check” before any assessment takes off. AI can generate items quickly, but this checklist ensures they are accurate, aligned, and truly worth your students’ time.
As you go through this section, reflect on your own practice: Which of these checks do I already do consistently? Which ones might I be overlooking when using AI?
